DinGir Marduk, Lord of the Double-Headed Axe, Slayer of the Serpent and Creator of Mankind. This Great God carries many Names and Titles. Most famous are of course the Fifty Names of Marduk. These Names are Titles, or Powers, which were given to Marduk by the Elder Gods after he had helped them to defeat the Ancient Ones. These Names are not only of great help to the Magician and his Workings, but they are also of great historical value as these Names originate from the epic Babylonian Creation Myth – Enuma Elish.
The Necronomicon Spellbook gives us a system that allows any person to summon these Fifty Powers, however, one should keep in mind that, for these Powers to be summoned effectively, one should first have passed the Gate of Marduk. This is not mentioned in the Necronomicon Spellbook, but in the Simon Necronomicon, on page 124, we are told the following:
“They may be summoned after the Priest has ascended to that step on the Ladder of Lights and gained entrance to that Sacred City.”
The Sacred City that is mentioned in the instructions cited above is obviously the Golden City of SAGALLA that is mentioned in the Invocation of the Marduk Gate, on page 58 & 59 of the Simon Necronomicon, which here follows:

- MARDUK, Son of ENKI, Master of Magicians, Remember!

- MARDUK, Who assigns the Wanderers their Places, Remember!
- Lord of the Worlds, and of The Spaces Between, Remember!
- First among the Astral Gods, Hearken and Remember!
- In the Name of the Covenant sworn between Thee and the Race of Men,
- I call to Thee! Hearken and Remember!
- From the Gate of the Mighty NERGAL, the Sphere of the Red Planet,
- I call to Thee! Hearken and Remember!
- MARDUK, Lord of the Fifty Powers, Open Thy Gates to me!
- MARDUK, God of Fifty Names, Open Thy Gates to Thy Servant!
- By the Name which I was given on the Sphere of NERGAL, I call to Thee to Open!

- Gate of the Lord of the World Between the Worlds, Open!
- Gate of the Conqueror of the Monsters from the Sea, Open!

- IA MARRUTUKKU! IA TUKU! SUHRIM SUHGURIM!

At the end of this Invocation we can see something interesting. Six of the Fifty Names of Marduk are included in this Invocation. Let us take a look at these Names and the function they perform.
MARUTUKKU – the Third Name of Marduk
Master of the Arts of Protection, chained the Mad God at the Battle. Sealed the Ancient Ones in their Caves, behind the Gates. Possesses the ARRA star.
TUKU – the Seventeenth Name of Marduk
Lord of Baneful Magick, Vanquisher of the Ancient Ones by Magick, Giver of the Spell to MARDUK KURIOS, a most fierce enemy.
SUHRIM – the Twentieth Name of Marduk
Seeks out the worshippers of the Ancient Ones wherever they may be. The Priest who sends him on an errand does so at a terrible risk, for SUHRIM kills easily, and without thought.
SUHGURIM – the Twenty-First Name of Marduk
As SUHRIM above, the Foe who Cannot be Appeased. Discovers the Priest’s Enemies with ease, but must be cautioned not to slay them if the Priest does not desire it.
ZAHRIM – the Twenty-Second Name of Marduk
Slew ten thousand of the Hordes in the Battle. A Warrior among Warriors. Can destroy an entire army if the Priest so desires.
ZAHGURIM – the Twenty-Third Name of Marduk
As ZAHRIM, a most terrible opponent. It is said ZAHGURIM slays slowly, after a most unnatural fashion.
We can see that these six aspects of Marduk provide the Priest with excellent protection. That these six Names are invoked during the opening of the Gate of Marduk suggests that they are of great importance to the Priest, while opening that particular Gate.
Another Name of Marduk can be found in the Book of Calling, on page 95 of the Simon Necronomicon. It tells us the following:
“This is the Book of ASALLUXI, the King, the Lord of Magick.”
This Name can also be found in the Exorcism against AZAG-THOTH and His Emissaries, on page 83 of the Simon Necronomicon in the following line:
“AZAG-THOTH TA ARDATA! IA MARDUK! IA MARDUK! IA ASALLUXI!”
The Name Asalluxi is very likely incorrectly written.The Name should read Asarluhi. Gods, Demons and Symbols of Ancient Mesopotamia written by Jeremy Black and Anthony Green tells us the following about Asarluhi, on page 36:
“Originally the god of Kuara, a village near Eridu, Asarluhi came to be associated with Enki (the god of Eridu), and with magical knowledge, the special preserve of Enki. Asarluhi was regarded as the son of Enki and Damgalnuna, and when Marduk was also accorded the title of son of Ea (the Akkadian name of Enki) it was natural for Asarluhi to be absorbed in the personality of Marduk. A hymn of the Old Babylonian Period addresses Asarluhi as the river of ordeal, as the first-born son of Enki and as Marduk. In the Standard Babylonian magical tradition Asarluhi is used as an alternative name for Marduk in incantations and prayers.”
We will end this article by sharing, with the reader, an experience I had after using one of the Fifty Names.I wanted to know if I could make a summoned Spirit affect change in something that normally yields the same results, and if another person, who didn’t know of the summoning, would notice these changes then I could be certain that the summoning was a succes. Here is what I did.
A friend of mine grows a certain kind of herbal substance, which is done in a controlled environment and each harvest is grown under the same conditions. For a while I discussed with him various details of the growing process, I sampled various harvests, and I inspected his growing space. I learned that he always grew his plants in the same way, often using the same kind of seeds. This was a great opportunity to see if my idea would work. So I made a good mental map of his growing space, memorizing various particular details that would later aid me in my visualizations. When the time came to plant new seeds I accompanied him to the store to make sure that he bought the same seeds as his previous harvests. When we drove home I took the little seeds out of the package and rolled them through my fingers, so as to establish a connection with these little things that needed growing. That afternoon my friend planted the seeds and that same night I called upon ASARU – the Tenth Name of Marduk.
“This Power has knowledge of all plants and trees, and can make marvellous fruits to grow in the desert places, and no land is a waste to him. He is truly the Protector of the Bounty.”
During the Ritual I visualized the growing space, picturing in my mind the particular details I had memorized. I recalled the feeling of the seeds rolling through my fingers, and I pictured how these seeds would grow into healthy plants with huge crops, and how they would supply a great harvest.
Just a few weeks after the planting of the seeds my friend came to visit me. He was all excited and told me that his plants grew much faster than they had done on his previous harvests. He joked that it was because of his superb growing skills, but I knew better. The Spirit was performing Its task! I went to check it out, and indeed, the plants grew faster than usual, and when they were eventually harvested they delivered more crops than they normally would have. I sampeled them and it was excellent!
