I would like to thank our readership for their continued support and participation in the Simon Necronomicon Current. I must say that it is a process of continued renewal and discovery with each and every step of the journey. i wanted to take the time to clarify a few things concerning the Necronomicon Tradition that may help newly interested individuals decide whether this is the correct path for them or not.

There are several things, unfortunately, that I find that is a strong deterrent in this sacred work, we all know and love, which we call Gate-Walking. One of the things that I find that is a trap to the unwary candidate of initiation has a lot to do with how these energies are used by the Initiate. There a some among us who have tried to use this system as a way of gaining capital, or some other self-centered purpose, only to discover more problems in their life. There is a passage in the Book of Calling that reveals this, though it is often misinterpreted:

Know, thirdly, that by the Power of the Elder Gods and the submission of the Ancient Ones, thou mayest procure every type of honour, dignity, wealth and happiness, but that these are to be shunned as the Purveyors of Death, for the most radiant jewels are to be found buried deep in the Earth, and the Tomb of Man is the Splendour of ERESHKIGAL, the joy of KUTULU, the food of AZAG-THOTH.”

Knowing “Thirdly” is a reference to the 3rd Gate, that of DinGir Ishtar. There is nothing wrong with obtaining material things, for the text states:

“..that by the Power of the Elder Gods and the submission of the Ancient Ones, thou mayest procure every type of honour, dignity, wealth and happiness,”

The “trap” in all of this is when the Initiate becomes entangled fear-based loop of calling upon the Necronomicon Current to solve their problems. What happens in situations such as these is that the Practitioner resorts to calling upon these energies in each and every problem while never realizing that they are feeding their own fears. Since they feed into fear, fear will always find a new way to present another situation in life that they will responed to using the same methods. Remember, the ritual garb presented in the Simon Necronomicon is a metaphor of ones’ emotional state when they are standing in front of the bowl. The Mad Arab speaks about this in his Second Testimony. notice the metaphoric language he uses to describe this:

“And if it be too large, it will grow too large and too fast and will become difficult to control. And one such demon was raised by that Priest of Jerusalem, ABDUL BEN-MARTU, and was fed extensively on the sheep of the flocks of Palestine, whereupon it grew to frightening proportion and eventually devoured him. “

Usually some worry may come to mind over something “trivial.” The Initiate may respond by performing a magical rite. Over time this sort of call and response becomes normal and every problem is sought to resolve itself through this process, but what was the first reason the Initiate resorted to such actions to begin with? Is it not fear? So in the end of it all, the practitioner winds up feeding their own fear.

It is one thing if an individual’s life is being threatened, their livelihood, or one of their relatives, or what have you. However, things that are trivial are not to be reconciled by using the methods taught during initiation. We should also remember that although someone may be an “asshole” to you and I, that person may be a husband to someone else. They may be a father, or a beloved son or daughter to a loving family. They have a right to fulfill their dream in their own way. It is only natural that when we leave in a world where so many people are trying to carry out many things, some of these people may collide with what we envision in our dream.

Another problem that I often encounter with newcomers is understanding the goal of these rites. The Mad Arab received these rites as the word KUTULU entered his mind, Gate-Walkers understand well what it means to receive a word at a gate. the problem however comes with the misunderstanding that the Urilia Text formulae is used to invoke the energies in the listed in the Urilia Text, when in fact it is formuale for the Initiate once he/she has passed the seven gates of Kur. Notice what is mentioned in the Normal Invocation of the Watcher:

“Cease to lie unwaking beneath the Mountains of KUR.
Rise up, from the pits of ancient holocausts! “

This passage reveals that the Gate-Walking Initiations occur in the same place where DinGir Ishtar walked through the seven gate, in the Underworld. Notice what is mentioned in the Simon Necronomcon’s introduction:

“Therefore, the Goddess of the Witches has two distinct forms: the Ancient One, Goddess of the Dragon-like telluric Power which is raised in Magickal rituals, and the Elder Goddess, Defeater of Death, who brings the promise of Resurrection and Rejuvenation to her followers those who must reside for a time after death and between incarnations in what is called the “Summerland”.”

If one has Walked the seven gates and are not able to attest to their worship for Tiamat, then they are not dully initiated. It is just that simple. I have written many articles on this subject. This problem arises when the Battle between DinGir Marduk and Goddess Tiamat is taken literally. Older Sumerian myths illustrate how Nammu (Tiamat) instructed DinGir Enki to make humanity. This was and is something of Sumerian thought, as well as, the deeper meaning of the Necronomicon Tradition. The Introduction continues:

“..these same telluric energies that are distilled in such places as Chartres Cathedral in France, Glastonbury Tor in England, and the Ziggurats of Mesopotamia. In both the European and Chinese cultures, the Dragon or Serpent is said to reside somewhere “below the earth”; it is a powerful force, a magickal force, which is identified with mastery over the created world; it is also a power that can be summoned by the few and not the many.”

Not everyone can share in the delights of the Necronomicon Current. Initiation into the Necronomicon Tradition can be quite challenging. Once you have made the decision to begin the process there is no turning back. Unfortunately, some have discovered this the hard way. The Necronomicon Tradition is not like what is read in Barnes and Nobles. It is not a Western Magical practice. It is a serious rite, similar to Haitian Voudun. Take your time with this practice.
