Dumu Abzu-a’s Library – The Exorcism Against The Possessing Spirit

Greetings! I would like to welcome everyone to the Papers in the Attic blog page. If this is your first time here, please feel free to review some of our previous articles and share some of your insights by posting a comment. Stay blessed!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As of late I have been dealing a lot with possession cases, involving spirits of a less than benevolent nature. It are very interesting experiences, but can be  quite dangerous at times. These occurences, which at times seem to come straight from some demented horror movie, are becoming more frequent and happen right in front of my eyes. While this can be quite unnerving and annoying in certain cases, it fortunately leads me to study this extraordinary phenomenon up close and personal, allowing me to experiment with the material of our ancient ancestors. True to the power of the ancient Ashipu-priesthood I have become able to properly use the exorcisms and banishings they left for us in the hot sands of the Iraqi desert, and have personally driven out the possessing spirit from my patient on more than one occasion. It is for this reason that I will present to you the Exorcism against the Possessing Spirit in both the Sumerian and Assyrian languages, as well as a proper English version which is a translation which was applied to a French work by C. Fossey, being La Magie Assyrienne.

Another English translation of this exorcism can be pieced together from material found in the book called: Babylonian, Armenian, and Assyrian, Literature by The Colonial Press, Page 159 to 161, Tablet I, II, V, and VIII.

It would read like this:

TABLET I

The noxious god,
The noxious spirit of the neck,
The neck-spirit of the desert,
The neck-spirit of the mountains,
The neck-spirit of the sea,
The neck-spirit of the morass,
The noxious cherub of the city,
This noxious wind which seizes the body and the health of the body.
Spirit of heaven remember,
Spirit of earth remember.

TABLET II

The burning spirit of the neck which seizes the man,
The burning spirit of the neck which seizes the man,
The spirit of the neck which works evil,
The creation of an evil spirit.
Spirit of heaven remember,
Spirit of earth remember.

TABLET V

He who makes an image which injures the man,
An evil face,
An evil eye,
An evil mouth,
An evil tongue,
Evil lips,
An evil poison.
Spirit of heaven remember,
Spirit of earth remember.

TABLET VIII

May Nin-kigal,the wife of Nin-asu,
Turn her face toward another place;
May the noxious spirit go forth and seize another;
May the propitious cherub and the propitious genie settle upon his body.
Spirit of heaven remember,
Spirit of earth remember.
