Wow! How did I miss this one? Love Is Blind: An Urban Love Story feat. Pinky XXX is one of the best movies I’ve seen to date. Written, directed, and edited by Jason M.U.G.S.Y. Smith, who also stars in the movie as Mugsy Dollars, Love is Blind is definitely a game changer for independent and major films alike. This mini-movie is a remarkable film about a strip club owner (M.U.G.S.Y) as “Smith” and his girl an exotic dancer and the struggles of a relationship in the entertainment biz with a backdrop questioning of the integrity of love. Big salute to Out the Gate Media for putting such a fine production together.

Warlock Asylum’s Review: The story is about the challenges M.U.G.S.Y Dollars must face to keep his underworld enterprise afloat. Pinky XXX plays the role of his long-time lover and trusted “Queen of Hearts.”  A very simple theme with its valued twists and turns, which makes it all the more worth viewing.

Although the film is not a high-budget production, it is well done and has a consistent “warmth,” where the viewer is made to feel that they are walking in the steps of the narrator. The acting is better than any Hollywood rendition of the crime side of life to date. The chemistry between M.U.G.S.Y. Dollars and Pinky XXX on camera is enough to give Sharon Stone and Robert Deniro a run for the money.

Another jewel about this masterpiece that I really enjoyed is its spiritual side, one that most hoodoo workers and shamans can easily see. This is an aspect that is not often covered in gangsta films about the hood, but is as real as the business itself. The list of street legends that know the hidden art, even in its simplest forms, can last for miles. Co-directed by Felix Stevenson, the cherry atop of this production is its theme of the meaning of love, which is definitely something to be witnessed. I’m giving Love is Blind five out of five stars!
