Interview With Composer Melvin Fromm Jr. – His Life, Music, and Faith in God

Originally from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, composer Melvin Fromm Jr. has built a fortress of instrumental music that has been a sheer delight to both domestic and international audiences. He has 234 songs added so far to the number #1 background environmental music company in Asia with daily plays in the hundreds and growing stronger each passing day as Melvin’s music has the potential to be heard in thousands of restaurants, retail outlets, shopping malls, hotels across SouthEast Asia in countries like Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand,and Indonesia. Melvin’s music is also starting to get play at Dairy Queen, Domino Pizza, and Dunkin Donuts worldwide.

Recently, I had the honor of chatting with Melvin Fromm Jr. and found his insights into music, family life, and faith in God, impressive as well as practical. Please join in on the conversation.

Warlock Asylum: I would like to extend my deepest thanks and gratitude to you for taking the time to answer a few questions and sharing your insights with us. If you don’t mind can you please introduce yourself for many of our subscribers who may not be familiar with your being? Who is Melvin Fromm Jr.?

Melvin Fromm Jr.: I grew up in a small town called Gap in Pennsylvania which is about 50 miles from a large city and went to Pequa Valley high school. I had just a basic simple childhood. I have been married for almost 17 years to my wife Percy who is from the Philippines. I’m just an over all simple guy that puts God first place in my life and works hard at whatever I do in life.

Warlock Asylum: How did your interest in music begin?

Melvin Fromm Jr.: I was writing a letter to my then girlfriend Percy and thought wow this sounds like a country song! So from that letter I wrote a song called “What I Feel” and with the grace of God it opened up a talent I never knew I had in me before.

Warlock Asylum: What were some of the lessons that you’ve learned in your  development as a composer?

Melvin Fromm Jr.: You have to keep working at it every day if you can in order to keep getting better and better at it. You want to get the feel of what kind of music you want to make from instruments that you have an ear for. It takes a lot of work. I always ask for God’s help with my music.

Warlock Asylum: A lot of your music is doing well overseas and in Asia. On terms of genre, how do you classify your music?

Melvin Fromm Jr.: I make a lot of styles of instrumental music, anything from jazz, Latin, country, rock, blues, and easy listening. A good mix of music’s many styles can make your value of music even be better and bring lots more people into the mix of hearing, liking, and wanting to work with you. That’s why I’m very open-minded about the genre of my music.

Warlock Asylum: Being a composer and music producer from Pennsylvania, what makes your music so attractive to people from different parts of the world?

Melvin Fromm Jr.: I really think it’s all the different styles of music I make and having the chance to work with so many good music people that help bring my music alive. We add and use lots of different instruments in songs to change it up. I really feel one of the biggest factors is my petitions for God’s help in making music as I cannot do it without him. I always make God first place in my life.

Warlock Asylum: How has your development as a composer affected your personal life?

Melvin Fromm Jr.: I feel that I am a much deeper person with greater focus in life. I am able to tune into things I need to get done daily in my personal life. I don’t know if my wife sees a change in me, but I sure feel like there has been some great changes in my life thanks to grace of God.

Warlock Asylum: What can we expect to hear from Melvin Fromm Jr. in the future? Are there any upcoming projects that you are working on?

Melvin Fromm Jr.: Well I am always working on a lot of new music for the overseas and Asian markets. As a composer of background music in public places, I have been asked to submit all the music I can make and what music they feel they can use will be picked up. So it’s a big ongoing project in my life right now and I’m so thankful to God for the opportunity.

Warlock Asylum: What advice would you give to someone seeking to create a career in music?

Melvin Fromm Jr.: If you really want to do it you have to work hard at it and don’t take no’s or “not good enough” to heart. Push through the negativity. Keep working and look for the “yes,” but also be aware of what people have to offer. Don’t give all your rights to your music away. You have to work hard and be smart. Don’t jump at the first offer that comes your way. Check them all out. I have had a lot of offers and most where very bad for me, so I passed on them. I always read the fine print in all things. Always be yourself and be thankful to people who help you. So if you feel it in your heart, go for it! Good luck and lean on God. He is all you can truly trust as things truly unfold along your musical path.

Warlock Asylum: Any final thoughts?

Melvin Fromm Jr.: I want to thank everyone that has been supported my music over the years including fans, radio people, music reviewers, everyone that has interviewed me, everyone that has taken the time to listen to my music, help make my music and just given me time in the music field.
