Today's Necronomicon Practitioner must equip themselves before entering the Gate-Walking journey.
“The initiatory structure in its pages is designed to create a different type of initiate: a kind of black bodhisattva, a spiritually enlightened and empowered sage” – Dead Names (page 224)
Simon admonishes practitioners of the Necronomicon to approach their work with the aim of becoming an” enlightened sage” or a “black bodhisattva” as he puts it in Dead Names. One of the reasons that we find such admonition given in the Necronomicon is to avoid becoming prey to spirits of extortion. This is one thing that the potential initiate should be aware of before approaching any form of occult ritual. In the Simon Necronomicon performing a ritual is synonymous with opening the Gate that leads to the Outside. Notice what is stated in the Book of Calling:
“Be ever watchful, therefore, not to open this Gate, or, if thou must needs, put a time for its closing before the rising of the Sun, and seal it at that time; for to leave it open is to be the agent of CHAOS.”
The Mad Arab clearly warns us not to open the Gate. In other words, do not perform ritual unless it is absolutely necessary. This is further discussed in Gates of the Necronomicon page 223:
“For this reason, the Gates should have been mastered first before undertaking the Calling operations, for the Calling involves opening the last Gate-the Eighth Gate, if you will- which opens the individual up to forces and experiences that lie outside the purview of even traditional occult practice as it is understood in the literature….(page 224)..To the Mad Arab, any act of contacting the Dead, various spirits, or monstrous entities was an act of “opening the Gate”: the Gate to the Underworld, which is perceived by him to exist both below the earth and somewhere in space”
Based on the information provided in Gates of the Necronomicon, the Necronomicon Practitioner is not to perform the operations of calling until they have gained a grasp of the seven gates. What this means is that during the Gate-Walking Initiation rituals of calling are not to be done by those undergoing initiation. Let me repeat this again. When a person is walking the gates of initiation they should not be involved with rituals of calling or opening the gate in any way, shape, or form. As stated in the Gates of the Necronomicon, “the Gates should have been mastered first before undertaking the Calling operations.”
All too often, we find initiates eagerly try to utilize the Simon Necronomicon pantheon before having walked the seven gates. The Gate-Walking Initiation is a time where occult students learn the powers of the mind and those thing on the Outside by remaining silent. Human beings have a lot of power, mental clairvoyant power that is beyond the scope of engaging spirits. This understanding cannot be had or understood by a person that is constantly contacting spirits. This is what is suggested by the Mad Arab in the Urilia Text:
“DO NOT OPEN THE GATE, SAVE FOR AN ESPECIAL TIME THAT THOU STATE AT THE TIME OF OPENING, AND IT MAY NOT STAY OPEN FOR A MOMENT AFTER THE PASSAGE OF THE HOUR OF TIAMAT, ELSE ALL THE ABYSS BREAK FORTH UPON THE EARTH, AND THE DEAD RISE TO EAT THE LIVING, FOR IT IS WRIT: I WILL CAUSE THE DEAD TO RISE AND DEVOUR THE LIVING, I WILL GIVE TO THE DEAD POWER OVER THE LIVING, THAT THEY MAY OUTNUMBER THE LIVING.”
Spirits of extortion operate in a manner where they can continuously remained employed. An occult student is often deceived by the impossible, the belief that a spirit can advance one’s spiritual evolution or solve a person’s problems. So a magician will contact a spirit for a solution and to fix something that they can only do, as dictated by occult law. The spirit will appear to fix the problem by supernatural means, which will only create another problem in another aspect of life. In time the student will find themselves constantly calling on spirits and not realizing that these are the very same energies that are causing the problems.
Another means of extortion often used by deceptive spirits is to “crown” an initiate with a false power, and finding an abode in the occultist’s subconscious mind. Once seated in the mind, the occultist will feel empowered and gifted with ability. However, problems will begin to surface in life and the spirit that sits upon the initiate’s head will utilize its host’s experiences as a hunting ground. So we find people constantly getting sick or experiencing some misfortune and not recognizing that it originates from these spirits that a potential initiate will employ.
Based on the different methods used by the spirits of extortion to capture an initiate, we stress the importance of requisite training. Learning to use you mind and mental exercises that accompany meditation are the only path to self-empowerment. These skills must be learned and had before working with a ritual system. Unfortunately, many still walk around wondering the key to occult power and can never see that it is not in techniques or rituals, but in the training and development of our very own psyche.
To me, the real occultism has more to do with memorization, discipline and perseverance. Being mindful of our thoughts and emotions rather than obsession with rituals or spirits. That is my experience thus far!

This is why I believe it is important for the worker’s of any path to be their own God! Working with these psirits can sometimes be akin to working with the rebellious nature of self and so command over ones own urges drives etc.. must be mastered first. Then when given a desire or need the worker must then command as if commanding their self or the rebellious nature within them.

Thanks for comment! I haven’t read this text in quite some time. However, I would say that all occult knowledge should be approached in the same level of understanding just like scientists in Europe have the same foundation as those working in Australia before working in applied science field.
This idea of not using the names is forigne to the pathworking of this and almost every other system. A cardiologist would use a diffrent system to work a problem then a epidemiologist. People may walk on the same path but ever single person has a diffrent experience even if it deals in the same context. Palo, Voudon, Santeria, IFA all are branches of the same tree but work in diffrent ways. The science man uses is I’m compatible with that of the higher science of the soul because it is limited to man sensory experience. But that’s the whole point isn’t it. Still love your work tho.
