All over the world, we find a great expansion in the fields of architectural design and construction. Saurabh Kumar is an emerging figure in this industry and has plans to add his innovative touch to the industry. He shares much about his origins and career in the following interview. Enjoy!

Warlock Asylum: Greetings! I am so happy that we finally get a chance to hear about your expertise and ingenuity in the fields of construction. Please introduce yourself.
Saurabh Kumar: I was born in 1992 in state of Uttar Pradesh, India. I grew up and went to high school there. Although I don’t have any background in the construction industry my parents always supported me in exploring this field. I completed my University education (B.Tech Hons.) from Centre for Environment Planning and Technology (CEPT) , Ahmedabad , India in the field of Building Science and Construction. After I graduated from university in 2016, I was offered the opportunity to get trained and work with some of the AEC giant companies such as Larsen and Toubro and Mott MacDonald.
Warlock Asylum: What factors inspired you to get involved in construction?
Saurabh Kumar: My passion for construction stretches back to my youth. I was always drawn to learning how things were built. I have a strong passion for construction, which includes everything from its feasibility to design and implementation.
Warlock Asylum: In what ways did you prepare and educate yourself for a career in different fields of construction?
Saurabh Kumar: I used to take part in various national and international level competitions during my studies. Initially, I started working on city-level projects. Later on, as I cleared my concepts, I completed a slew of international projects in BIM technology for various disciplines such as Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical. I also got the opportunity to work on projects of reputed water treatment sector companies such as Yorkshire and Severn Trent. This way I got experience in various aspects of building, industrial and water sectors.
Warlock Asylum: What are some of the skills that you’ve put into practice since graduating from such detailed studies?
Saurabh Kumar: I have prepared and managed 2D, 3D, 4D BIM models as per projects’ requirements, such that it drives the productivity and project schedule. I prefer to build a long-term vision for my clients. I make my tasks easier by preparing the right execution plan and exploring different software available in the industry. I track and analyze all my projects by making different colorful graphs in spreadsheets.
Many companies and freelancers offer BIM technology but getting the right BIM plan is essential. This requires an extensive collaborative process between architects, engineers, owners, and contractors and in this integrated collaboration is the uniqueness of my work.
Warlock Asylum: What are some of the accolades and honors you’ve received since exploring your path?
Saurabh Kumar: I won a national level competition (CEMCON) conducted by Indian Concrete Institute, Pune. The theme of the competition was Sustainable Solutions for Buildings.
I also conducted a thesis research titled “BIM for reinforcement detailing in R.C.C Frame Structures,” which was published in International Journal of Research in Engineering and Technology and presented at International conference REDECON-2016 conducted by Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, India.
Warlock Asylum: What advice would you give to someone looking to enter the fields of architectural design and construction?
Saurabh Kumar: Like anything else, whatever you want to do in life takes hard work and focus. But most important of all, you should have a true love for what you are doing that will keep you motivated. Whenever I am working on a project, I always keep in mind that “what could be the result?” If you forget what you are trying to achieve, you can deviate from your goals. Therefore, keeping in mind the expected results has helped me and my team to focus on what needs to be done during the project. In fact, it is rightly said that a plan without a goal is just a wish.
On behalf of Warlock Asylum International News, I would like to wish Saurabh Kumar all the best in his career and endeavors. May his work continue to unfold in a prosperous manner as much as the inspiration he has brought into our lives.
