The prolific and multi-talented singer and songwriter Jake Merritt is set to release a wonderful 9-track album in the spring of 2023 titled Old Soul. Plans for recording the album seem to have emerged after the Covid-19 pandemic began in early 2020 and plans for performing live were sidelined, so he immediately began writing and recording new material in his home studio.
Old Soul triumphs musically as Jake plays all the instruments on the recording except for the trumpet and saxophone. The album is deeply rooted in the various genres that sprouted from early American blues music, and also contains profound revelations of R&B, Soul, Rock, Folk, and Country. Old Soul is an album that sparks a mature approach to life in the post-modern world while capturing the grace of humanity’s progression through the ages.
