2020 has certainly been an epic year of uncertainty and amid COVID—19, corrupt politicians, and worldwide protests against police brutality, the planet Mars will be joining the party as it begins its retrograde motion in the sign of Aries on Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 at 6.23 pm EDT (28º08′ Aries) square Venus in Leo to Friday, November 13th, 2020 at 7.36 pm EST (15º13′ Aries) opposite Venus in Libra. Mars goes retrograde for approximately 2 months every 2 years. The last time Mars was retrograde in Aries was in the year 1988 from August to October. What are we to expect in 2020?
One thing that certain as the “planet of war” begins its retrograde is that we can expect to see the rise in political tensions and possibly the outbreak of war or a terrorist attack. Negotiations between Israel and the Islamic world may fair poorly during this time. There will also be a great swing in political public opinion in the United States as both Saturn goes direct on September 29th, 2020 as well as Jupiter on September 13th, 2020.
On a personal note, the signs most affected by the Mars retrograde are Aries and Scorpio respectively, and those who carry multiple aspects of these two signs in their natal charts, including other fire signs (Leo and Sagittarius). Usually, there is an increased tendency to lose one’s temper. It is certainly not the time for conflict or to let disagreements sink too far below the skin. A rise in male bravado and decreased libido is to be expected. In many areas of life, things may seem to be stifled as the vitality in society, and in one’s physical life may appear below. Mars retrograde, however, is a great time to explore new routines for getting in shape and to restructure the business and reflect on what makes us happy sexually. The increased tension may be a strong catalyst to explore new things. Since Mars was often noted in mythology to cure and wield disease, please be aware of your immune system and take extra vitamins and possibly include cayenne pepper tablets in your diet. Stay Awake!
