Enlil’s Placement In the Necronomicon Tradition: Of the Generations Of the Ancient Ones
I would like to welcome everyone to the Simon Necronomicon Gate-Walker’s Info Page. If this is your first time here, please review some of our previous article appearing to the right of this page. Stay blessed!
Lately, we have discusd the Magan Text and I wanted to follow-up on our recent post about the third section of the said text entitled Of the Forgotten Generations of Men, which can be accessed by clicking on the following link: http://warlockasyluminternationalnews.com/2011/02/09/the-magan-text-of-the-forgotten-generations-of-man/
In the beginning of the Magan Text the Mad Arab states the following:
“And the horrors and ugliness that the Priest will encounter in his Rites are herein described, and their reasons, and their natures, and Essences. And the Number of the Lines is Sacred, and the Word are Sacred, and are most potent charms against the Evil Ones.”
The above passage mentions that the Priest will encounter certain “horrors and ugliness” in his Rites. In view of such, I thought it would be a good idea to clearly define where the seven gates of initiation, as described in the Simon Necronomicon, are located at. Let us begin by looking at the First Testimony of the Mad Arab.
“Know, then, that I have trod all the Zones of the Gods, and also the places of the Azonei, and have descended unto the foul places of Death and Eternal Thirst, which may be reached through the Gate of GANZIR, which was built in UR, in the days before Babylon was.”
The Mad Arab’s words, cited above, is a clear reference to Mt. Mashu, which was a prominent part of the Gilgamesh epics. As we have discussed in some of our previous articles, Mt. Mashu gave one access to the Underworld, the Abode of the Gods, and to the Throne of Ishtar. Mashu represented three different aspects. This is later confirmed to us in another section of the Mad Arab’s Testimony:
“When I was only a youth, travelling alone in the mountains to the East, called MASSHU by the people who live there, I came upon a grey rock carved with three strange symbols.“
What is interesting to note in the passage that appears above, is that the Mad Arab describes MASSHU (Mashu) as “the mountains to the East,” meaning that he was traveling from the west to the east. We can confirm this from other passages that appear in his Testimony:
“I have raised armies against the Lands of the East, by summoning the hordes of fiends I have made subject unto me, and so doing found NGAA, the God of the heathens, who breathes flame and roars like a thousand thunders.”
The above words confirm for us that the Mad Arab was coming from a place considered west of Mt Mashu, and entered this mystical place by traveling west to east, which is a very important part of our discussion. Interestingly, the term Mashu was also a symbol of the rising and setting Sun, as the sun-god Shamash is often depicted between the two peaks on ancient Babylonian cylinders. The rising sun would depict the sun’s return to the palace of the gods and the setting sun would be an indication of its entrance into the Underworld to judge the dead. This means that as the Sun was setting in the west, it was about to enter the Underworld, and as it rose in the morning it was returning to the Abode of the Gods. This means that rituals performed during the night hours are those that pertain to the Underworld.
The Underworld was a place that could refer to two different things, the outer regions of the heavens, known as Nar Marratu, and beneath the Earth, which was accessed through Ganzir. The interesting thing about direction west, which the Mad Arab began, his journey through Mt. Mashu is expounded upon in Chaldean Magic, page 168:
“However that may be, the principal entrance to the infernal regions…was situated in the west, near the great mountain which matched, on that side, “the mountain of the east,” or more precisely of the north-east, the cradle of the human race….where the Babylonian mythology established the place of the assembly of the gods.”
Francios Lenormant, author of the observation cited above, clearly defines the localities of Mt. Mashu. We can see that the mountain lying to the west was the location of the infernal regions, while the mountain that stood in the north=east was where the gods were located. This is also evident from the Mad Arab’s First Testimony:
“I have found the Gate that leads to the Outside, by which the Ancient Ones, who ever seek entrance to our world, keep eternal watch. I have smelled the vapors of that Ancient One, Queen of the Outside, whose name is writ in the terrible MAGAN text, the testament of some dead civilization whose priests, seeking power, swing open the dread, evil Gate for an hour past the time, and were consumed.”
Later in his Testimony, the Mad Arab identifies the Gate that leads to the Outside as Three Seals of MASSHU:
These are the signs carved upon the grey stone, that was the Gate to the Outside:

One thing that we should keep in mind is that the good and bad spirits were often times untied to each other in ancient Mesopotamian cosmology. Lenormant continues on page 174 in Chaldean Magic:
“We may add that the spouse of Namtar was also invoked amongst the good spirits, and that this characteristic is even seen in her name, khusbi-kuru; “an encounter with her is of good omen, is propitious….The good and bad spirits were not connected with different principals; for they could issue from or be united to one another.”
This is also why we find both benevolent and malevolent spirits contained within the 50 Names of Marduk. The ancient Sumerians recognized that there are good and bad people in the same family, so it is with the gods as well. Before we continue, we would like to point out that Mt Mashu is an etheric realm that contained many of the great mysteries, and was loyal to the Atlantean Tradition. We can now understand the meaning of the Mad Arab’s words appearing in the Magan Text:
“Hearken, and Remember!..In the Name of ANU, Remember!..In the Name of ENLIL, Remember!..In the Name of ENKI, Remember!.When on High the Heavens had not been named,..The Earth had not been named,”
The passage points to a time when ‘Heaven and Earth have not been named.” For years, scholars have erroneously interpreted these words, both in the Enuma Elish and the Magan Text, as a creation epic, when in fact it represents the process of initiation. Mt. Mashu represents both the Abode of the Gods and the Underworld, which relates directly to Heaven and Earth, as we will shortly see. So the expression Heaven and Earth have not been named refers to those who are not initiated, or those who have not entered Mt. Mashu. We can confirm this by identifying an aspect of the one deity that is absent from the records of the Enuma Elish, and mentioned only once in the Magan Text, Dingir Enlil.
UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF ENLIL
We cannot understand ancient Mesopotamian cosmology if we do not understand who DinGir Enlil is, the god whose number is 50. The Akkadians referred to DinGir Enlil as the god Mulge. Written in 1906, J.G.R Forlong makes the following observation in his classic work Faiths of Man, Volume 2, page 577 we read:
“Mulge. Akkadian: “lord below” otherwise Mul-lil, or Enlil, “ghost lord”…The Akkadian name of Ba’al, lord of earth and of hell. His son was Namtar, “fate” or “plague.” His wife was Nin-ki-gal (“lady of dead-land).”
Here we see that Enlil (known in Akkadian as Mulge) is the “lord of hell” and the father of Namtar. Enlil is the lord of hell that exists beneath the Earth. We can confirm the Sumerian Enlil as the Akkadian Mulge, since the same attributes apply. In a Wikipedia article entitled Enlil we read:
“By Ereshkigal Enlil was father of Namtar.”
Outlines of the History of Religion to the Spread of the Universal Religions, written in 1877, by Cornelis Petrus Tiele, states the following on page 67:
“The religion of the Akkadians was the type of the richest and most complete development of the exclusive worship of the spirits and elements of nature. The hosts of spirits were innumerable. They were ranged in classes, and even the highest deities were classed with them. The ranks of these include Ana, the highest heaven regarded as a divine being; Mulge and Ninge, the lord and lady of the hidden heaven beneath the earth, the abyss; and Ea or Hea, god of the atmosphere and moisture..”
From the information cited above, we can see that the Three Great Watchers Anu, Enlil, and Enki represent also the Three Seals of MASSHU. Anu (ARRA) = the highest heaven, Enki (AGGA) = zodiac, solar system, atmosphere, Enlil (BANDAR) = the hallow earth, or the hidden heaven in the earth. This is where the deeper wisdom of the Greater Mysteries comes into play, as the Magan Text is a work that describes the realm of Enlil, or Mulge. Based our recent discovery of Enlil’s position, which we will speak about more in detail in a second, it becomes clear that Marduk is NOT Enlil. Marduk is a solar deity that was later assigned the sphere, which correlates to Jupiter. His number still remained 10 amongst the Babylonians priests, as the secret meaning of Marduk’s role remained intact. There are many deities among the ancient Mesopotamians who had additional names other than their assigned number in the hierarchy. For those of us who are familiar with ancient Babylonian history, we know well that Marduk replaced Tammuz as Ishtar’s consort during the annual Sacred Marriage Rite. Studies in the History of Religion, makes the following point on page 66:
“When Marduk replaced Tammuz as the central figure in the spring festival at Babylon the king assumed the function of the suffering god.”
We should also remember that Inanna/Ishtar was called the “Queen of Heaven.” In other words, she was the personification of the whole galaxy, the whole seen heavens at that time. The Sacred Marriage Rite was based on the mythological legend of Inanna And Dumuzi. In this myth, Inanna makes Dumuzi orgasm fifty times, and this is the origin of the 50 Names. Should any doubt still remain as to the correct interpretation of this “fifty times” passage, another version of this same event was recorded anciently and can be found online at Oxford University’s “Electronic Corpus of Sumerian Literature“:
“When my sweet precious (Inanna), my heart, had lain down too,
Each of them in turn kissing with the tongue, each in turn,
Then my brother (Dumuzi) of the beautiful eyes did it fifty times to her,
Exhaustedly waiting for her, as she trembled underneath him, dumbly silent for him.
My dear precious passed the time with my brother laying his hands on her hips.”
(excerpt from “A Balbale of Inana and Dumuzid,” t.4.08.04, 12-18)
And then we have the personal account of Enmerkar, King of Uruk, relating his personal experience in the “Sacred Marriage” Rite of Kingship with an “entu” or “hierodule” (the female priestess representing Inanna in “Sacred Marriage” rite) (ca 2600 BCE). Responding to a boast by the governor of a neighboring city claiming to be the true “beloved” of Inanna, and thus attempting to make himself a potential rival to Uruk’s throne, Enmerkar replies:
“He may lie with her in sweet slumber on the adorned bed, but I lie on Inana’s splendid bed strewn with pure plants. Its back is an ug lion, its front is a pirig lion. The ug lion chases the pirig lion, the pirig lion chases the ug lion. As the ug lion chases the pirig lion and the pirig lion chases the ug lion, the day does not dawn, the night does not pass. I accompany Inana for a journey of (15) double-hours*…” (Lines 77-88)
The 50 orgasms that Dumuzi experienced was adapted to Marduk’s rise to godhood, but the story was somewhat altered, since the Mother Goddess rites were diminishing with the increase in male dominated religions. In any event, Marduk (nar marratu) was summoned from the abyss from “beyond the stars,” in order to enter the hallow earth and do battle, symbolic of the forces that dwell inside the earth. According to the Hollow Earth Hypothesis, planet Earth is either wholly hollow or otherwise contains a substantial interior space. The hypothesis has long been contradicted by overwhelming observational evidence, as well as by the modern understanding of planet formation; the scientific community has dismissed the notion since at least the late 18th century. For more detailed information, we suggest that the reader review these two links:

While many so-called scholars will assert that the Hallow Earth Theory is fiction, the Necronomicon provides proof that it is real, and that the seven planets of the solar system are just mere representations of the seven realms of existence that exists within the Earth. This can be proven by comparing what is written in ancient mythology with what science has discovered today. References to the hallow earth are numerous in the Simon Necronomicon.
“I have seen the Unknown Lands, that no map has ever charted. I have lived in the deserts and the wastelands, and spoken with demons and the souls of slaughtered men, and of women who have dies in childbirth, victims of the she-fiend LAMMASHTA…I have traveled beneath the Seas, in search of the Palace of Our Master, and found the stone of monuments of vanquished civilizations, and deciphered the writings of some of these; while still others remain mysteries to any man who lives. And these civilizations were destroyed because of the knowledge contained in this book.”
“I have raised armies against the Lands of the East, by summoning the hordes of fiends I have made subject unto me, and so doing found the NGAA, the God of the heathens, who breathes flame and roars like a thousand thunders.”
The Mad Arab speaks about the god NGAA, which is derived from NGA. NGA is the god of death. Wikipedia offers us this brief history concerning NGA:
“Among the Nenets people of Siberia, Nga was the god of death, as well as one of two demiurges, or supreme gods…According to one story, the world threatened to collapse on itself. To try and halt this cataclysm a shaman sought the advice of the other demiurge, Num. The shaman was advised to travel below the earth, to Nga’s domain and call upon him. The shaman did as told and was wed with Nga’s daughter. After that point he began to support the world in his hand and became known as “The Old Man of the Earth.” In another myth, Num and Nga created the world, collaborating and also competing with each other — the myth is an example of dualistic cosmology.”
The other thing that we have to take into consideration is what science has discovered. In the following article, entitled Inner Core we find something of what science has discovered concerning the interior of the Earth:
“The inner core of the Earth, its innermost hottest part as detected by seismological studies, is a primarily solid sphere about 1,216 km (760 mi) in radius, or about 70% that of the Moon. It is believed to consist of an iron–nickel alloy, and may have a temperature similar to the Sun‘s surface,”
Here we see science confirming that the inner core of the Earth is mostly made up of iron that is about the same temperature as the surface of the Sun. The ancient people of Sumer described this same scientific calculation in their mythology. It is noted that Nergal was ruler of the Underworld and his metallic correspondence is iron. Nergal also represented the hot august Sun, and the Sun at noontime, which corresponds to the core of the Earth being the same temperature as the surface of the Sun. How could the ancient Sumerians have knowledge of this, if there was no Hallow Earth, or as the Mad Arab would say Black Earth?
Now that we have come to an Understanding that Enlil (also known in Akkadian as Mulge) is the presiding force of the “hidden heaven,” located in the interior of the Earth, we can begin to understand The Necronomicon Tradition more deeply. In the Babylonian Creation myths Enki summoned his son Marduk, which is equivalent to our summoning the Watcher. Enki’s number is forty, and Marduk’s is 10, 40 + 10 =50. Here we see that Marduk being a forced that is summoned from outer-space is then mingled with the force of the atmosphere, Enki = 40, and thus we have the number of Enlil, which is 50.
Earlier in our discussion, Enlil (Mulge) was noted as having dominion of the interior of the Earth, so some may wonder why Enlil’s number is higher than the entities that correspond to the stellar realms and beyond. Everything that exists in the interior of the Earth has an outer correspondence in both the planets and the fixed stars. The civilization in the interior of the Earth, being that the Earth’s core is equivalent in temperature to the Sun’s surface, we find that this chthonic civilization is able to send a signal to the Sun and influence the movements of the planets and stars. From this we can see that Marduk is a personification of stars of lesser influence and Enki is a personification of stellar bodies that exist in our solar system and the azonei. Notice what is found at the following link: http://www.crystalinks.com/hollowearth.html
“One of the most controversial tales of inner-Earth-dwellers is the so-called Shaver Mystery. In 1945, Amazing Stories magazine, under the editorship of Ray Palmer, ran a story told by American writer and artist Richard Shaver, who claimed he had recently been the guest of what remained of an giant race called the Elder Race, or Titans, an underground civilization that lived in caverns under the earth. ..Shaver contended that the Elder Superior Pre-historic Race came to this planet from another solar system in our prehistoric past. After a time of living on the surface, they realized our sun was causing them to age prematurely, so they escaped underground, building huge subterranean complexes in which to live. Eventually, they decided to seek a new home on a new planet, evacuating the Earth and leaving behind their underground cities – a honeycomb of caves in the Earth – populated by artificial beings: the evil Dero, detrimental robots and the good Tero, integrated robots. Shaver claimed to have met the Tero. ..According to Shaver, the Dero, live there still, using the fantastic machines abandoned by the ancient races to torment those of us living on the surface. As one characteristic of this torment, Shaver described “voices” that purportedly came from no explainable source. Thousands of readers wrote to affirm that they, too, had heard the fiendish voices from inside the Earth. ..Despite the enormous popularity of the “Shaver Mystery in Amazing Stories”, Palmer milked it for all it was worth, and more. The location of the entrance to this underground world was never divulged. Although few really believed the story, and many suspect that Shaver may actually have been psychotic, Shaver always averred that his story was true. “
Now let us compare this the words of the Mad Arab:
“Of the three carved symbols, the first is the sign of our Race from beyond the Stars, and is called ARRA in the tongue of the Scribe who taught it to me, an emissary of the Elder Ones. ..”
Now let us compare all of this with some historical information about Enlil taken from the Unitarian Review and Religious Magazine, Volume 13, page 417:
“The remaining god of the triad of superior deities is Mulge. He and his consort, Ninge or Ningelal, are the lord and lady of the gloomy pit or the subterranean world. This is called “the home whence none return” ; that is, the abode of the dead….The picture of the underworld given by the Akkadian tablets is painted in mostly gloomy colors. There were believed to be seven doors to this world; but the principal entrance was located at the great mountain of the west, where the sun sets,…In the lower world, together with Mulge and his consort, there lived seven other gods, his sons, who lived, as one of the incantations says, “ in the flames.” (page 418) The subterranean regions were not only the home of the dead, but the haunt of spirits of disease and demons. –the children born of the earth, as they were called.
This information indicates that the seven gate of initiation appearing in the Simon Necronomicon are located in the Hallow Earth, a realm assigned to Enlil (Mulge). In view of what we have discussed so far, notice what is mentioned in the Book of Calling, as no celestial deities appear in the passages that follows:
THIS is the Book of the Ceremonies of Calling, handed down since the time the Elder Gods walked the Earth, Conquerors of the Ancient Ones….This is the Book of NINNGHIZHIDDA, Horned Serpent, the Lady of the Magick Wand.
This is the Book of NINAXAKUDDU, The Queen, Mistress of the Incantations…This is the Book of ASALLUXI, the King, the Lord of Magick…This is the Book of AZAG, the Enchanter…This is the Book of EGURA, the Dark Waters of ABSU, Realm of ERESHKIGAL, Queen of Death…This is the Book of the Ministers of Knowledge, FIRIK and PIRIK, the Demon of the Snake-Entwined Magick Wand and the..Demon of the Thunderbolt, Protectors of the Arcane Faith, the Most Secret Knowledge, to be hidden from those not of us,..from the uninitiated…This is the Book of ASARU, the Eye on the Throne…This is the book of USHUMGALLUM, Mighty Dragon, born of HUBUR, of the Battle Against the Elder Gods…This is the Book of ENDUKUGGA and NINDUKUGGA, Male and Female Monsters of the Abyss, of the Claws like..Daggers and the Wings of Darkness…This is further the Book of NAMMTAR, Chief among the Magicians of ERESHKIGAL….This is the Book of the Seven Demons of the Ignited Spheres, of the Seven Demons of the Flame…This is the Book of the Priest, who governeth the Works of Fire!
Simon mentions the following in Gates of the Necronomicon page 41:
“The idea of a Gate is inseparable from the concept of the Underworld.”
The first settlers of the east viewed the Underworld in the interior of the Earth as a hidden heaven, the city that the Sumerian Noah was granted eternity and life in paradise by Enlil. The beauty is in understanding the dark symbolism:
UTUKK XUL
The account of the generations
Of the Ancient Ones here rendered
Of the generations of the Ancient Ones
Here remembered.
Cold and Rain that erode all things
They are the Evil Spirits
In the creation of ANU spawned
Plague Gods
PAZUZU
And the Beloved Sons of ENG
The Offspring of NINNKIGAL
Rending in pieces on high Bringing destruction below
They are Children of the Underworld
Loudly roaring on high
Gibbering loathsomely below
They are the bitter venom of the Gods.
The great storms directed from heaven
Those are they
The Owl, Messenger of UGGI
Lord of Death
Those they are
THEY ARE THE CHILDREN
BORN OF EARTH
THAT IN THE CREATION
OF ANU WERE SPAWNED.
