Yata no Kagami Ceremony of Astral Projection
Yata no Kagami Ceremony of Astral Projection

Today we are happy to announce our first Yata no Kagami Ceremony of Astral Projection of year18,002 will take place on April 28th, 2014. This is normally a private ceremony for Shrine of Ninzuwu members only, but will be open to the public for the next two months.

Yata no Kagami (八咫鏡?) is a sacred mirror that is part of the Imperial Regalia of Japan. Traditionally, it is recognized as a symbol of honesty and truth. Yata no Kagami literally means “The Eight Hand Mirror.”

In the Art of Ninzuwu teachings, The Sacred Mirror (Yata no Kagami) is a symbol of the soul. It is also known by the term “Johuta.” Yata no Kagami is a gift available to everyone from Amaterasu Ohkami, or the aspect within us that is a reflection of the sun itself. Famous American astrophysicist, author, and science communicator, Neil deGrasse Tyson, once stated the following:

“The knowledge that the atoms that comprise life on earth – the atoms that make up the human body, are traceable to the crucibles that cooked light elements into heavy elements in their core under extreme temperatures and pressures. These stars, the high mass ones among them, went unstable in their later years they collapsed and then exploded, scattering their enriched guts across the galaxy, guts made of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and all the fundamental ingredients of life itself. These ingredients become part of gas clouds that condense, collapse, form the next generation of solar systems, stars with orbiting planets. And those planets now have the ingredients for life itself. So that when I look up at the night sky, and I know that yes we are part of this universe, we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts is that the universe is in us. When I reflect on that fact, I look up, many people feel small, cause their small and the universe is big. But I feel big because my atoms came from those stars.”

Tyson’s words are only an echo of what has been understood in esoteric Shinto thought for centuries. In the Nihon Shoki, we read:

“At this time Amaterasu no Oho-kami took in her hand the precious mirror, and, giving it to Ame no Oshi-ho-mi-mi no Mikoto, uttered a prayer, saying: ‘My child, when thou lookest upon this mirror, let it be as if thou wert looking at me.”

In the Ninzuwu-Shinto practice, Yata no Kagami represents the use of the starry, or astral body. During the Yata no Kagami Ceremony, a Ninzuwu-Shinto Priest/Priestess will visit the member, or participant in a dream and assist them in astral travel, where they can gain entrance in some of the astral lodges governed by the Amatsukami.

Non-members who would like to participate in this ceremony should email us for further instruction.

Members can respond to this same posting, as it appears on the Shrine of Ninzuwu forum. We look forward to welcoming and assisting all that we can in attending this astral event.

Have a blessed day!
