The Wonsers is an independent Minneapolis-based rock band with an amazing backstory. The group was formed in 1992 by the Van Dyke brothers – Peter, John, and Matt, who titled the band after their mother’s maiden’s name.
During their early efforts, the Wonsers successfully established themselves as one of the pillars of the underground rock scene in Minneapolis. However, the band would become inactive in the early-2000s as the group’s members began pursuing other interests. However, in 2021, after a 20-year hiatus, the Wonsers would regain life as members Peter and John felt inspired to record music once again. As a result, we encounter the rerelease of You Never Knew Me When I Was Young 2.0 (featuring a live track of “Mess” recorded at the Turf Club in St. Paul in 1998), as well as two new upcoming singles: “Without a Sound” and “Long Way to Go,” both mixed by Tom Garneau (Prince, R.E.M., Mavis Staples, The Breeders, Chicago).
You Never Knew Me When I Was Young 2.0 is a uniquely driven rock album that captures a progressive musical theology. This musical portfolio is comprised of six tracks, which includes a recording of the Wonsers’ live performance of the song “Mess”. Listeners will be equally intrigued with the opening track “Skyline Bridge,” and its electrifying guitar riffs and vibrant texture that continues throughout the album. You Never Knew Me When I Was Young 2.0 by the Wonsers is a brilliant work that has proven its value as being ahead of its time.
