Based out of Los Angeles, poetess and political activist Brooke Benson has an eclectic sound that is an enthralling fusion of spoken word prose combined with elements from jazz, hip hop, and world music genres. Her new EP titled I am The Sun features some uplifting messages and a host of collaborations with musicians, which include Michael Jerome on drums (Richard Thompson, Better than Ezra), Andreas Geck (Kelly Clarkson) on bass, guitarist, Eric McFadden (George Clinton and The P-Funk All Stars) and drummer, DJ Bonebrake (X), Nate LaPointe (Bobby Womack, Cubensis) on guitar, and Chris Murphy (The Devils Box String Band and The Blind Blakes Bordello Band) on violin/mandolin.

The EP’s title track I am The Sun is a very a bright and moving offering from Brooke Benson. The track is led by some crisp and organic measures and strums of acoustic guitar and violin. Brooke adds further depth to the song I am The Sun with a melodic hook that she does a great in performing. I am The Sun has a very motivational and festive vibe that makes its message very enjoyable.
